SciComm meets deep tech in Riga
– Gary Hartley
The importance of effectively communicating complex science was underlined at the Baltic’s largest deep tech event.
Half a day at Deep Tech Atelier, which brought AI, quantum, defence and space entrepreneurs, scientists and investors to Latvia’s capital Riga, was dedicated to science communication.
The sessions were organised by the online platform Labs of Latvia – a COALESCE Hub – and featured talks as diverse as the belief systems of the Latvian people, how to engage audiences on social media and “interesting more than 10 people” with complex scientific topics.
“Labs of Latvia is often the first media outlet young teams talk to, and often they lack knowledge on how to represent themselves right and why they need to communicate at all,” said Ieva Treija, Editor-in-Chief of the site.
“When we were offered the opportunity to participate in an activity during the deep tech event, we decided that we needed to discuss science communication.”
