Consolidate knowledge from previous and ongoing projects to feed into the Competence Centre.
COALESCE Work Package 2 (WP2) is “Pro-active Knowledge Consolidation and Co-development”.
We are consolidating the knowledge derived from SwafS-19 projects and other initiatives to feed the EU Competence Centre for Science Communication. Doing so, we create connections to co-develop and compile guidelines, resources, tools, methodologies, innovative strategies and recommendations to promote quality science communication for all R&I actors.
We are also developing a Crisis Navigator for rapidly mobilising science communication in times of crisis, designed to provide evidence-based information, practices and processes to respond when acute science-related controversies arise.
We are studying strategies to fight misinformation and engender trust in key actors for science communication.
Finally, we will co-design a library of resources and handbooks for effective science communication, aimed at different stakeholders as part of the COALESCE Science Communication Academy.

Main results and achievements
- Curation of an overview of knowledge gained in SwafS-19 projects
- Define and oversee the implementation of the scicomm innovation cycle
- Compilation and analysis of existing resources on misinformation and trust, essential for strengthening science-society relations
- Co-creation with various stakeholders from crisis and risk communication to inform the Crisis Navigator for mobilising science communication during crises
- Insights into contemporary practices and novel forms of scicomm through rapid research synthesis
- Co-creation of standards, principles and criteria and curation process that will inform the recommendation structure of the library of resources
